1949 Dodd, Mead and Co. Library book Moby Dick

Sometimes its just amazing what Ebay yields! After the book arrives home, completely unexpected, surprises galore.

I knew from the photo during the auction that this copy was beat, but what I did not expect was that it is from a grade school in Vermont and it turns out this grade school is the school that my good friend Mark went to, and was there during this book's tour of duty.

Not only that, I was attending college just down the road when many of these date stamps were applied.

So it was connected by time and space to the both of us!

Shout out to Pete H. who took the book out multiple times and gave it the big effort, no idea if he finished it.

  2. HPC, I appreciate the visit, it means a lot to us here at TMDC, and fyi we use "awesome" as the bench mark of our work. Your comment makes us feel as if we have succeeded.

Also, in responding to your comment we did a little further research, and Pete H. first checked out MD March 15th 1978 when he was in B-4 classroom. then again on Sept 21st 78 renewed Oct 3rd, Oct 30th, Nov 13th, and Nov 27th all in room B-5 and finally he came back Feb 6th 1980 when he was in B-6 for a total of seven times spanning two full years.

    Thanks for the comment.!

  3. Hello -

How did you know this was the 1949 edition? I've got a copy with similar illustrations that I believe is from 1922.

  4. The 1922 edition is clearly marked on the title page. On subsequent editions the date has been removed. There are differences in size as well with later editions being smaller. The front cover on the 1922 Ed has the title printed in gold type which is missing on later editions.
