Purchased in 2009, During a visit to NYC. Having exhausted Ebay and ABE books, I needed a new area to collect, and expanding the foreign language section seemed like fun.
But let me go back a few years... in 1987, working for a multinational corporation, I was due to make a swing thru the far east on a business trip that was aimed at finding suppliers of the product we were selling here in the US. That trip was to start in Taipai and continue to Hong Kong and end in Toyko.
Being that I was in my mid 30's, I was in the the midst of the typical funk about life and what I had not done and what I had wanted to do. About all that I could control at that time was the books that I was reading, so I was reading those highschool and college books I was supposed to read and didnt read.
As the cab for the airport pulled up to the house I realized I needed a book for the flight, and I just grabbed my high school copy of Moby-Dick.
I read it on the flight over, and about all I could say is that it was compelling and very funny...
Thus started this obsession of mine.
